What causes tooth discolouration?
|
There are many causes. Commonly the most likely causes include natural ageing and the consumption of substances such as tea, coffee, cola's, red wine, tobacco etc. Also, during the formation of the teeth the consumption of tetracycline, some antibiotics or excessive flouride may cuase tooth discolouration.

Who may benefit from treatment?

Almost anyone with discoloured teeth may benefit, however, treatment may be more effective in some as it is in others. Your dentist or dental technician is able to acertain if you are a suitable candidate for treatment through a thorough oral examination and tooth shading assessment.

Is teeth whitening safe?
|
Yes. Extensive research and clinical evidence shows that under the supervision of your Dentist teeth whitening is safe. We do however reccommend that teeth whitening is not viablefor candidates such as children under 16 years of age and pregnant or lactating women.

How long does whitening last?

If you follow simple post whitening care rules your teeth should always remain whiter than they were before treatment. To keep your teeth looking white we reccommend flossing, brushing your teeth twice a day as normal and the use of Night White Gel available from your dentist. |
How does teeth whitening work?
|
Whitning works by activating a Hydrogen Peroxide gel on the teeth which as it is broken down allows oxygen to enter the enamel and dentine. This procedure has the effect of bleaching the teeth whilst the structure of the teeth remain unchanged. |
What can I experience during treatment?
|
Teeth whitening may be undertaken quite comfortably whilst listening to music or watching television. Individuals with a strong gag reflex or anxiety may experince some difficulty undergoing the entire procedure. Sensitivity may also occur during treatment and on rare occasions a tingling sensation may be experienced afterthe procedure but will aways dissipate. |
How much does teeth whitening cost?

1) Zoom Power Bleaching - Takes 1.5 hours chairside with an avergage of 8 shades lighter:

2) Home Kit - Takes several days with special trays to contain the bleaching gel. Its not as powerful as the powerful or as quick as the Zoom bleaching. Bleaching gel is the weaker concentration. (prior teeth impressions are needed):
